Robert Borbidge served as the 35th Premier of Queensland from 1996 to 1998, leading a coalition government with a focus on economic reform, infrastructure development, and public sector efficiency. His political career in the Queensland Parliament spanned just over twenty years, including leadership roles such as Deputy Premier, Minister for Industry, Small Business and Technology, and Leader of the Opposition.

As one of Queensland’s most respected public figures, Mr Borbidge is recognised for his pragmatic leadership, regional advocacy, and contributions to policy-making at both state and national levels. He played a key role in shaping Queensland’s modern economic direction and fostering closer collaboration between government and industry.

Since retiring from politics, Mr Borbidge has remained deeply engaged in public life. He has held numerous board and advisory roles across the business, education, healthcare, and community sectors. He has served as Chair of the Board of Advice at Griffith University’s Institute for Glycomics, and as Chair of LifeFlight Australia. He also chaired the Legacy Committee for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

In 2006, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in recognition of his service to the Queensland Parliament and the community.

Mr Borbidge brings decades of high-level experience, leadership, and insight to the ESG Future Foundation, helping to guide its strategic direction and engagement with government, industry, and the broader community.
